Aubrey Norton wins the PNCR election, Harmon, unimpressed. New Brickdam Station to be a modern fire-resistant structure… Essequibo family compensated $1.2 million for accidental cremation
Good morning Guyana!
Welcome to the Monday, December 20, 2021, edition of The Culture Digest.
Here’s what happened since Friday’s edition. Aubrey Norton wins the PNCR election, Harmon, unimpressed. New Brickdam Station to be a modern fire-resistant structure… Essequibo family compensated $1.2 million for accidental cremation at funeral parlor.
Politics
Norton voted Guyana’s Next Top Burnhamite
On Sunday, Aubrey Norton won the PNCR internal elections. Norton beat out Harmon and Van West Charles for the Leader of the PNCR. However, Norton is not the Leader of the Coalition nor the Parliamentary Opposition just yet, as Harmon said that he does not intend to step down from the position. Complicating the matter further is that Granger, as Leader of the last list submitted to GECOM, controls who is given a seat in Parliament, even though he was not nominated in this internal party election for any leadership post. Nevertheless, Norton’s candidate for Chairman, Shurwayne Holder, was also successful while there is a tie for 2nd Vice Chairperson between Christopher Jones and Vinceroy Jordan. The party is expected to clear up these issues and declare the official results today.
Business/National Development
The President has just commissioned the access bridge at Palmyra linking the community with CGX Inc Deep Water Port’s construction site.
Health/Public Safety
New Station, who dis?
Minister Benn said the new Brickdam Police station would be a modern 11 story fire-resistant structure. That’s it. That's all we know as the Police Communications Department has yet to give more information despite promising to do so. But it shouldn’t be that surprising as they only exist to spite the media on every possible occasion.
